Ultherapy

Consultations offered at our two convenient locations in Phoenix and Scottsdale

Ultherapy Phoenix and Scottdale, AZ

Ultherapy is a non-surgical and non-invasive procedure that uses ultrasound energy to tighten skin from the inside out. Utilizing your skin’s own ability to heal, this treatment triggers the production of collagen and elastin to tighten skin on the face, neck, chin, brows, and upper chest. Once not possible without surgery, Ultherapy significantly reduces the look of wrinkles without scarring or a painful procedure.

Phoenix’s sunshine is one of the best features the city has to offer, but too much exposure can lead to damaged skin and early wrinkles. Here at Phoenix Skin Medical, Surgical & Dermatology, our team of board-certified physicians and physician’s assistants are here to rejuvenate your features and help you look your best. Whether you are curious about non-invasive facial rejuvenation, or just want to learn more about what we do, we provide personal consultations. Schedule yours today by calling our Scottsdale office at (480) 473-9111, or fill out our contact form. Ultherapy is only available at our Scottsdale location.

All About Ultherapy

Ultherapy is an FDA-approved cosmetic treatment to help reduce the effects of aging for all types of patients. Instead of affecting both the outer and inner layers of tissue like laser and radiofrequency treatments, Ultherapy uses ultrasound waves to affect only the inner layers of tissue. The treatment selectively creates an internal injury to the skin without disturbing the epidermis to stimulate a wound healing response.

How Ultrasound is Used for Aging Skin

This process uses micro-focused ultrasound (MFU) energy to heat the underlying tissues very briefly to temperatures greater than 60 degrees Celsius (140 degrees Fahrenheit), causing your collagen fibers in the deep layers of skin to contract. Once the deeper layers are compromised by the ultrasound waves, your body triggers its healing mechanisms to repair them. This directly utilizes our own abilities to heal our own tissue without damaging the surface layer of skin, allowing your facial skin to heal from the inside out by introducing extensive collagen production and remodeling. (1)

MFU reaches the SMAS (superficial muscular aponeurotic system) under the surface layers of facial skin. Treating the SMAS in this way creates greater tissue tightening and encourages longer-lasting results for patients receiving Ultherapy. (2) Other types on non-invasive facial that use laser or radiofrequency energies do not address the SMAS layer, leading to repeated treatments in order to get the best results. Facelift procedures, however, do address this system, making their results longer lasting and much more noticeable. Although Ultherapy cannot offer the exact results as a facelift procedure would, this treatment lifts and tightens the skin a remarkable amount without the incisions and downtime that come with surgery.

Benefits of Ultherapy

Ultherapy uses micro-focused ultrasound technology to identify and treat the deeper layers of skin without compromising superficial tissue. It is the only non-invasive procedure approved by the FDA for both tightening and lifting the muscles and skin of the neck, under the chin, and eyebrows. Results take some time as collagen is being generated. Ultherapy reviews report a higher satisfaction than any other technology in its category.

In a study conducted by The Esthetic Clinics from 2017 to 2019, 50 patients were treated with Ultherapy micro-focused ultrasound technology on the mid and lower face. 83% of these patients saw improvement 6 months post-treatment, and 85% of those patients found their results satisfactory. (1) There are several factors that influence this, and the benefits of Ultherapy revolve around its non-invasive nature and proven effectiveness.

Ultherapy offers treatment that is non-surgical and non-invasive, with no downtime, scarring, and extremely minimal skin irritation. For patients with noticeable wrinkles and fine lines, Ultherapy is a perfect treatment to reduce visible aging. It can also be used to even skin tone, lift facial features like drooping eyebrows, and tighten your jaw structure.

Ideal Candidates

Ultherapy is designed to best treat patients with the following attributes:

  • Younger patients with early signs of aging: As we get older, our skin starts producing less collagen. By our mid-to-late 20s, this can lead to mild wrinkling before further sun exposure and time produce deep folds on and around the face. Ultherapy can reduce the appearance of this type of aging even at its earliest stages
  • Older patients unwilling to undergo facelift surgery: A facelift can reverse the signs of aging in patients that are deeper into the facial aging process. If you do not wish to undergo this procedure, Ultherapy can be a great non-invasive alternative. It targets the same areas of the face. Please remember, however, that it can not replace a facelift or produce the exact same results as one.
  • Facelift recipients who seek maintenance: Patients that have received a facelift and are fully healed, but have started to notice the recurrence of wrinkles and line, can keep their skin looking young and vibrant by receiving Ultherapy.

Ideal candidates are those who:

  • Have loose skin (under the chin, on the neck, around the mouth and eyes, etc.)
  • Are between 30 and 60 years of age
  • Are in relatively good health
  • Have reasonable expectations

Personal Consultation

During your consultation, we will brief you on what Ultherapy may do for you and your skin so you can be as informed as possible before the treatment is performed. One of our highly-trained staff members will take you through the procedure step-by-step. We take pride in our personalized and comprehensive treatments, and this starts with a thorough consultation.

We will examine your skin and ask questions to determine if Ultherapy is right for you. Be prepared to explain your full medical history, including any and all medical procedures you have received in the past. A $50 non-refundable fee is required to schedule an appointment or consultation and can be applied towards treatment. Less than 24-hour notice for cancellation and/or no show will result in a forfeiture of the $50.

How Can I Prepare for my Ultherapy Procedure?

Since the treatment is non-invasive, there is little preparation involved. You may continue your regular eating, sleeping, and exercise habits leading up to and directly after the treatment. Showing up to your procedure date with a clean face and neck can help speed up the process, and you may take anti-inflammatory or pain medication beforehand if necessary.

Ultherapy Procedure Process

To prepare your skin, your physician cleans your face with a gentle cleanser. They apply ultrasound gel to promote a smooth and even treatment application, then may provide a topical anesthetic to keep you completely comfortable. Ultherapy uses a smooth applicator to deposit micro-focused ultrasound to the skin. The entire process takes anywhere from 20 to 120 minutes depending on what areas are being treated. After the procedure, your physician cleanses your face once more and you are free to go.

Post-Ultherapy Expectations

In most cases, patients are able to go about their day as usual after an Ultherapy procedure. There is little-to-no downtime associated with this treatment, and minimal and temporary side effects. You may experience redness, mild to moderate swelling, bruising, and tenderness to the touch for up to two weeks following the procedure.

If medication is administered during the procedure, you may need someone to take you home afterward if your driving is impaired. You should be back to normal and able to resume your usual activities immediately once the medication wears off.

Results After Ultherapy Procedure

The results of Ultherapy appear gradually but are consistent and long-lasting. You will begin to see the effects about three to six months after your treatment as the natural process of creating new, more elastic, collagen builds over time. The skin will gradually tighten, lift, and tone throughout this time, and the results can last from one to three years depending on the patient. Ultherapy can be repeated one or two more times, but can not be utilized too often because of its strength. This treatment is not considered a replacement for surgical procedures, but it has proven to be an inviting alternative for those who are not yet ready for surgery.

Corresponding & Complementary Procedures

Thermage

Thermage uses radiofrequency technology to send energy through tissue to tighten the skin. Results are gradual, and it is often the preferred method to treat areas on the body like thighs, arms, buttocks, and abdomen. Read more about Thermage.

Lasers

Laser treatments affect the top layer of skin causing an improvement in facial lines and wrinkles, and an immediate contraction of collagen as the damaged top layer of skin is removed. It does eventually lead to new collagen growth and some quicker results as the damaged skin is replaced. Read more about laser skin resurfacing.
