Microlipoinjection, also called autologous fat transfer or fat injections, is a procedure in which an individual’s own body fat is used to fill lines and creased areas in the skin, or to add volume to lips and cheeks. It can even correct certain types of scars and problems caused by liposuction and add definition to the jaw and chin.
The first step of a microlipoinjection involves the harvesting of adipose tissue (your own body fat) from the abdomen, through a fold in the navel or from the hips through a small puncture that leaves an unnoticeable scar. The tissue is then isolated and cleansed, allowing Dr. Laris to find the healthiest concentration of fat cells for use. The final step involves the injection of the fat cells and delicately layering them into the targeted areas within the existing tissues to pick up the blood supply, which allows fat cells to survive.
Because microlipoinjection is a technique in which fat is transferred and managed as living tissue and in a manner that promotes new blood vessel growth, it survives and the results are longer lasting: up to ten years or more.*
